CAFÉ CALADO — 10-PIECE AMATE STUDIO COLLECTION
Café Calado is a 10-piece collection of original Mexican art created by Feather Luna using handmade Café and Crème Amate bark paper.
The collection includes five original cut-out artworks in rich brown Café Amate and five solid natural Crème Amate sheets. The Crème sheets can be used as optional backings to highlight the cut-out designs. Each Café Calado artwork can also be displayed without backing, allowing the wall color or framing surface to show through its openings.
Each composition balances bold geometric forms with the raw fibers, natural texture, and irregular edges of the paper itself.
A WORKSHOP COLLECTION
Café Calado grew from genuine experimentation inside Feather Luna’s small workshop and gallery studio. It is a working creative space where we cut and rearrange forms, study shadows, test negative space, and refine each composition by hand.
Every motif began as a hand-cut paper study. Lines, openings, and connecting bridges were adjusted repeatedly until the design felt visually strong while respecting the delicate character of the amate.
HANDMADE AMATE
Each sheet carries its own visible fibers, deckled edges, tonal shifts, and subtle irregularities. These are natural characteristics of the handmade bark paper—not printed or artificially added effects.
The rich brown Café Amate brings depth and texture to the cut-out compositions, while the lighter Crème Amate offers a natural contrast and additional creative possibilities.

Each Crème sheet can be placed behind a Café cut-out design to create a contrasting background. The sheets remain separate and removable, allowing you to change the presentation whenever you like.
THE CUTTING PROCESS
Once each hand-cut composition is finalized, the artwork is precisely laser-cut into the handmade Café Amate at a small, independent family-run studio.
This process allows us to preserve the original design while retaining the distinctive character of every sheet.

Café Calado offers flexibility in how each artwork is presented.
With Crème Amate backing: Place a solid Crème sheet behind a Café cut-out design. The lighter natural paper creates contrast, highlighting the geometric forms and openings.
Without backing: Display the Café cut-out artwork on its own, allowing the wall color, mat, or chosen framing surface to show through. The background becomes part of the composition.
The five artworks can be arranged as a complete gallery wall or displayed individually throughout a home, studio, restaurant, hotel, or creative space.
Float framing or shadow-box framing is recommended to showcase the paper’s natural edges, texture, and cutwork. Framed images in the listing are styling examples only.
NATURAL MATERIAL
Because every sheet is handmade, slight differences in color, fiber placement, texture, and edge shape should be expected.
